Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) controls the main power relay and expects it to remain closed (providing power) for a specific duration after the key is turned off to complete the engine's "after-run" sequence (saving data, parking actuators, etc.). This fault code is triggered when the ECU detects that the main relay is either opening too early (interrupting the after-run sequence) or is mechanically/electrically stuck in the closed position.

Check the cause

  1. Remove the main EDC power relay and bench test it by applying 12V to the control pins and checking for continuity across the load pins. Ensure internal contacts are not physically welded/stuck closed when power is removed.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the ECU and the main relay panel for chafing, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

  3. Inspect the relay socket in the fuse/relay panel for melted plastic, pushed-out pins, or severe corrosion that could cause intermittent early opening of the circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the machine's negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Locate the Relay

    Access the main relay panel. (Location varies by model; it is typically found in the cab fuse box or the engine compartment's primary electrical distribution center).

  3. Harness Repair (If applicable)

    If diagnostic testing revealed a short or open circuit in the wiring between the ECU and the relay panel, repair the damaged section of the harness using OEM-approved weather-sealed connectors.

  4. Replace the Relay

    If the relay was found to be stuck closed or opening prematurely, discard the old relay and install a new OEM main relay into the socket. Ensure it is seated firmly.

  5. Reassemble and Test

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the inactive ENG 3764 fault code.

  6. Verify Repair

    Start the engine, let it run briefly, and then turn the key OFF. Wait for the ECU to complete its after-run sequence (you will usually hear the relay click off after a few seconds). Rescan to ensure the code does not return.
