New Holland ENG 379 – ENG: Front fueling current is too high
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an abnormally high electrical current draw on the circuit for the front fueling actuator (also known as the front pumping control valve or stator) on the Cummins Accumulator Pump System (CAPS) fuel injection pump.
Applies to these machines
15 machines- TG215
- TG245
- TG255
- TG275
- TG285
- T8010
- T8020
- T8030
- T8040
- T8050
- T9020
- TJ280
- TJ330
- CR9040
- CR9060
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECM and the CAPS pump front fueling actuator for chafed wires, melted insulation, or a short to ground.
Test the transient suppressor diode in the CAPS pump wiring harness for failure or shorts.
Disconnect the front stator on the CAPS pump and measure its electrical resistance with a multimeter to check for an internal short.
Check for related codes such as ENG 329 (CAPS overpumping), ENG 553 (Front fueling actuator overfueling), or ENG 559 (Front fueling actuator underfueling).
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing or ECM damage.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the exterior of the CAPS injection pump to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system during disassembly.
Remove the Stator
Locate the front Injection Control Valve (ICV) stator on the CAPS pump. Disconnect the electrical connector.
Replace the Stator
Remove the retaining hardware, remove the faulty front stator, and install the new stator repair kit.
Reassemble and Prime
Reconnect the wiring harness. Reconnect the batteries. Turn the key to the ON position and wait approximately 30 seconds to allow the electric lift pump to prime the CAPS system.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 379 fault code, start the engine, and verify that the engine runs smoothly without derating or triggering the check engine light.
