   Check for other active faults related to the Fuel Metering Unit, High-Pressure Pump, or Rail Pressure Sensor, and repair before continuing

   Verify if the high-pressure pump fuel delivery quantity at low idle is too high

   Inspect fuel return lines for blockages or restrictions that could cause pressure to back up into the rail

   Check the PRV opening count; if it has reached its maximum allowed opening count, the valve has likely weakened and will no longer hold standard operating pressure

   Address Root Causes

   Diagnose and repair any active faults related to the fuel metering unit or rail pressure sensor first.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the ECU fault codes and test run the machine to see if the overpressure event repeats.

   Relieve Fuel Pressure

   If the PRV is leaking, weak, or has exceeded its maximum opening count, it must be replaced. Turn off the engine and allow the system to depressurize completely before opening the high-pressure fuel circuit.

   Remove the PRV

   Locate the fuel pressure relief valve on the common fuel rail. Disconnect the return line and unthread the valve from the rail.

   Install the New PRV

   Thread the new pressure relief valve into the common rail and torque it to the exact OEM specification for your specific engine model.

   Reassemble and Bleed

   Reconnect the fuel return line. Bleed the fuel system of air if required by your specific engine manual.

   Verify Repair

   Start the engine, check for fuel leaks around the rail, and verify that the engine operates at full power without returning to limp mode or throwing low/high rail pressure codes.
