New Holland ENG 381 – Engine Controller (Engine ECU / ECM): Error detected in cold start relay 1

This code indicates a malfunction, voltage irregularity, or open/short circuit in the primary cold start relay circuit. This relay is responsible for sending high-amperage current to the intake air heater (or grid heater) to warm the incoming air, which assists the diesel engine in starting during cold weather. When this relay fails, the engine may experience hard starting, insufficient heat generation, and emit white smoke during cold cranks.
