ENG 3811

New Holland ENG 3811 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): EDC - ECU Sensor Supply Monitor: ECU internal: Error Sensor supplies 1

Issue description

Fault code 3811 triggers when the voltage on Sensor Supply Circuit #1 falls outside of the acceptable switching thresholds (usually too high or shorted). The primary failure modes are a short in the wiring harness or a faulty/shorted sensor pulling the reference voltage out of range.

Check the cause

  1. Identify the Sensor Supply #1 circuit on the 60-pin Engine Connector (Connector A), specifically pins A07, A08, A09, A10, A11, A12, and A13.

  2. Visually inspect the engine wiring harness leading to the ECU 60-pin connector for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corrosion/water intrusion that could cause a short to battery voltage.

  3. Perform a sensor isolation test: Turn the key ON (engine off), monitor the 5V supply voltage with a multimeter, and unplug the sensors on this circuit one at a time (e.g., Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor, Boost Pressure Sensor). If voltage normalizes when a sensor is unplugged, that sensor is internally shorted.

  4. Perform a harness continuity test: With all sensors unplugged, test the harness for a short to power (12V) or short to ground if the voltage is still out of range.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal before repairing wiring or replacing modules.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the harness test revealed a short, splice and repair the damaged section of the wiring harness using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors, or replace the engine harness entirely.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensor

If the isolation test proved a sensor was internally shorting the 5V line, remove the faulty sensor, clean the mating port, and install the new sensor. Torque to OEM specifications.

  4. Replace the ECU

If the wiring harness is perfectly intact, all sensors are unplugged, and the ECU is still outputting an incorrect voltage on pins A07-A13, the ECU has suffered an internal hardware failure on its 5V driver. The EDC/ECU must be replaced and flashed with the correct machine software by a dealer.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and use a diagnostic tool (like the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the DTCs and verify the 5V supply is stable.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC Module

Exact part number requires the machine's specific PIN/Serial Number, as it must be programmed to the machine

  • Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor

    504382791

    Bosch Part Number 0 281 006 165

  • Engine Wiring Harness

Fitment depends heavily on the exact loader/tractor model
