New Holland ENG 3816 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Governor Valve: Permanent governor deviation for valve

The positive limit of the throttle valve governor deviation has been exceeded. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is requesting a specific throttle valve position, but the desired position cannot be reached. This is typically caused by a sticking throttle valve, a throttle valve binding inside the assembly, or a mismatched/faulty throttle valve position sensor.

   Verify if the fault code is currently present and in an active state

   Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors between the ECU and the Throttle Valve Actuator (TVA) for shorts, open circuits, or corrosion

   Check the throttle valve assembly for physical binding or sticking inside the housing

   Verify fault code status

   Connect your diagnostic tool and verify if fault code 3816 is active.

   Clear inactive code

   If the fault code is stored in history but is no longer active or present, clear the code; it is OK to return the machine to service.

   Diagnose active code

   If the fault code is present and active, and wiring checks out normal, the throttle valve is likely binding internally.

   Test with known good unit

   Temporarily replace the throttle valve assembly with a known good unit and retest the system.

   Confirm fault elimination

   Cycle the machine and confirm the elimination of the fault code.

   Install new part

   If the fault is eliminated, permanently install the new throttle valve body.
