New Holland ENG 3842 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC7: Turbine Upstream Temperature Sensor: SRC High
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected that the voltage signal from the inlet turbo temperature sensor is abnormally high (specifically, above 3.59 V). This indicates that the sensor's signal circuit is shorted to a high-voltage source.
Applies to these machines
13 machines- W50C ZB
- W60C ZB
- W70C HS
- W70C
- W80C HS
- W80C
- CR9090
- CX8080 Elevation
- CX8090 Elevation Tier 4A
- T6
- T7
- T8
- T9
Check the cause
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify that fault code 3842 is currently active
Inspect the wiring harness between the turbine upstream temperature sensor and the ECU for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses causing a short to power
Disconnect the sensor and check if the voltage on the signal wire drops. If voltage remains high, the short is in the harness. If it normalizes, the sensor has failed internally
Test the ECU: If the wiring harness is completely intact but the high voltage originates from the ECU pin itself, the control unit may be faulty
Repair steps
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery
Ensure safety while working on the engine wiring harness.
Locate the turbine upstream temperature sensor
Locate the inlet turbo temperature sensor near the turbocharger assembly.
Inspect the electrical connector
Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.
Repair or replace the wiring harness
Repair or replace any damaged sections of the wiring harness if a short to power was found during the diagnostic phase.
Remove the faulty sensor
If the wiring is good but the sensor failed the diagnostic test, unthread the faulty temperature sensor from the exhaust/turbo housing.
Install the new temperature sensor
Install the new temperature sensor and torque it to the manufacturer's specification.
Reconnect the electrical connector and battery
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.
Verify the repair
Connect the Electronic Service Tool, clear the inactive fault codes, and run the engine to verify that the code does not return and the sensor reads normal operating temperatures.
