ENG 3845

New Holland ENG 3845 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector - Zero Fuel Calibration by Lambda (ZFL): DFC reporting error state on comparing energizing time to Max value injector 2.

Issue description

The engine controller detects that the energizing time required for Injector 2 has hit or exceeded the maximum allowable limit during the Zero Fuel Calibration process. This is typically caused by incorrect programming (IQA/IMA code mismatch) or an internal defect in the injector.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Injector Coding: Read the physical calibration code stamped on the top of Injector 2 and use the New Holland EST to verify that the code programmed into the ECU matches exactly.

  2. Check for ECU Flashing Errors: Ensure the ECU has not been recently flashed with an incorrect file or lost its injector coding memory.

  3. Injector Testing: If the coding is correct, perform a cylinder contribution test or an injector return-flow (leak-off) test to confirm if Injector 2 is mechanically failing or clogged.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

    Hook up the New Holland EST to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Inspect Calibration Codes

    Navigate to the injector programming section. Compare the ECU's stored code for Injector 2 with the physical code on the injector.

  3. Reprogram (If Necessary)

    If the codes do not match (often happens if an injector was previously replaced but not programmed), enter the correct code into the EST and save it to the ECU. Clear the code and test run the machine.

  4. Replace Injector (If Defective)

    If the programmed code is already correct, Injector 2 has an internal defect and must be replaced.

  5. Install New Injector

    Remove the defective injector and install the replacement.

  6. Program New Injector

    You must use the EST to program the new injector's unique calibration code into the ECU. Failure to do so will result in the same 3845 fault code returning.

  7. Test Run

    Clear all inactive faults and run the engine up to operating temperature to allow the Zero Fuel Calibration process to run and verify the repair.
