ENG 3848

New Holland ENG 3848 – ENGINE ECU: Injector - Zero Fuel Calibration by Lambda: DFC reporting error state on comparing energizing time to Minimum value injector 1

Issue description

The engine control system has detected an error state when comparing the energizing time of the Cylinder 1 fuel injector to its minimum allowable threshold during the Zero Fuel Calibration process. This fault is generated because the injector programming is incorrect (an IMA calibration code mismatch) or because the injector has suffered an internal mechanical/electrical defect.

Applies to these machines

  • L218
  • L220
  • L223
  • L225
  • L230
  • SR175
  • C227
  • C232
  • C238
  • T5.100
  • T5.110
  • T5.120

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) with Easy-Engine software to the machine.

  2. Navigate to the injector programming section and check the 7-digit IMA (Injector Calibration) code currently programmed into the ECU for Cylinder 1.

  3. Visually inspect the physical fuel injector installed in Cylinder 1 and read the 7-digit IMA code printed on the injector body.

  4. Compare the physical code on the injector to the code programmed in the ECU to ensure they match exactly.

Repair steps

  1. Reprogramming

If the IMA code in the ECU does not match the physical injector (often caused by a previous ECU flash or improper replacement), use the EST diagnostic tool to program the correct 7-digit code into the ECU. Clear the fault code and test run the engine.

  2. Injector Replacement

If the codes already match, or if the fault returns after reprogramming, Injector 1 has an internal defect and must be replaced.

  3. Remove and Install

Remove the defective injector from Cylinder 1 and install the new replacement injector.

  4. ECU Coding

After fitting the new injector, the new 7-digit IMA calibration code printed on the new injector body must be programmed into the engine ECU using the diagnostic tool. This ensures that injection quantities are matched cylinder by cylinder.

  5. Verify Repair

Clear the fault codes and verify the repair by running the machine.
