New Holland ENG 3915 – ENGINE ECU (EDC): Pressure Relief Valve: Averaged rail pressure is outside the expected range with open PRV

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected that the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is open, but the average fuel rail pressure is not dropping to the expected 'limp-home' baseline, or the valve is failing to maintain the correct pressure parameters while venting. This usually means the PRV is mechanically fatigued, stuck open, or leaking prematurely.

   Check for fuel contamination (water or debris) and ensure low-pressure fuel filters are clean and the lift pump is supplying adequate fuel

   Check the High-Pressure Pump Metering Unit (MeUn) for faults (e.g., codes 3917, 3918) that could over-pressurize the rail

   Verify the rail pressure sensor is reading accurately and its wiring harness has no shorts or opens

   Perform a return flow (leak-off) test on the PRV to see if it is leaking fuel into the return line during normal idle/operating pressures

   Preparation

   Thoroughly clean the engine area around the fuel rail.

   Depressurize

   Turn off the engine and allow sufficient time for the high-pressure fuel system to completely depressurize before loosening any fittings.

   Removal

   Locate the Rail Pressure Relief Valve at the end of the common fuel rail. Disconnect the fuel return line attached to it. Carefully unscrew and remove the faulty PRV from the rail.

   Installation

   Install the new Pressure Relief Valve into the fuel rail. Torque strictly to the OEM specification (over-tightening can distort the rail; under-tightening will cause high-pressure leaks). Reconnect the fuel return line.

   Priming

   Prime the fuel system using the manual primer pump to purge air from the low-pressure side.

   Reset & Test

   Start the engine and inspect for leaks. You must use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the ENG 3915 fault code and reset the PRV 'wear out / open count' memory in the ECU.
