New Holland ENG 3967 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / ISM-DI ENGINE: Quick Response data is not written
Issue description
This fault code triggers when the engine computer detects that the Quick Response (QR) calibration codes printed on each fuel injector are missing, blank, or have not been programmed into its memory.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- L218
- L220
- SR175
- SV185
Check the cause
Check recent service history to determine if the Engine ECU was recently replaced, updated, or flashed, which would wipe the injector QR data
Check if one or more fuel injectors were recently replaced and the technician forgot to write the new QR codes to the ECU
Check for accompanying codes (such as ENG 3968, ENG 3969, ENG 3970, or ENG 3980) that might indicate a corrupted memory file or a failing ECU dropping its memory
Repair steps
Retrieve the QR Codes
Physically inspect the fuel injectors installed in the engine. Write down the alphanumeric Quick Response (QR) calibration code printed on each injector, being careful to note exactly which cylinder each injector is installed in.
Connect Diagnostic Equipment
Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Launch the ISM DI Tool
Open the EST software. Note that accessing the ISM-DI engine controller requires a specific add-on software license called the 'ISM DI Engine Tool Software' (or IHI Shibaura Service Tool).
Write the Data
Navigate to the 'injector code adjustment' or programming menu. Enter the QR codes you recorded for each respective cylinder (e.g., Cyl 1, Cyl 2, Cyl 3, Cyl 4).
Save and Clear
Save the configuration to the ECU. Cycle the machine's key off and back on, then use the EST to clear the ENG 3967 fault code. Verify the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)Diagnostic Software License
SRV07ISM DI Engine Tool Software for CNH Industrial Products with ISM DI Engines - 1 Year. Required to unlock the EST software capability to write the QR data.
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Required only if the current ECU has an internal EEPROM failure and cannot retain the written QR data.
Fuel Injectors
Required only if the injectors themselves are physically damaged or failing.
