New Holland ENG 3968 – ISM-DI ENGINE: Quick Response data Error
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the injector calibration codes programmed into its memory are missing, invalid, or do not match the expected format.
Applies to these machines
17 machines- L213
- L215
- L216
- L218
- L220
- L228
- L140-L175 series
- SR175
- C175
- C227
- B90B
- B95B
- B100B
- B110B
- B115B
- Boomer 33-47
- Workmaster 33-37
Check the cause
Verify recent service history to see if any fuel injectors or the Engine ECU were recently replaced without being programmed
Connect the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) and read the injector codes currently stored in the ECU memory
Physically inspect the top of the fuel injectors (remove valve cover if necessary) and write down the alphanumeric QR/IQA code printed on each injector
Compare the physical codes on the injectors to the codes programmed in the EST
Check for accompanying codes like 3970 (ECU Memory Fault) or 3971 (Engine ECU Memory Error) which indicate the ECU is losing its memory
Repair steps
Reprogram Injector Codes
If the physical codes on the injectors do not match the codes in the ECU (or if the ECU fields are blank/invalid), use the New Holland EST software to manually input the correct alphanumeric QR codes for each specific cylinder.
Save and Cycle Power
Save the dataset to the ECU. Turn the machine's key switch to the OFF position, wait for the ECU to fully power down (usually 30-60 seconds), and turn the key back ON.
Clear Faults
Clear the inactive ENG 3968 fault code using the EST.
Address ECU Memory Failure
If the codes were already correct, or if the ECU refuses to accept the new codes and throws memory errors (3970/3971), the Engine ECU dataset is corrupted. You must re-flash the engine dataset using the EST. If the flash fails or the code returns after a battery disconnect, the Engine ECU has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

SBA131406570For L218, L220 Skid Steers. Remanufactured and new options available. It is highly recommended not to mix aftermarket and OEM injectors due to atomization differences.
Fuel Injector Assembly
SBA131406360For C175, L140-L175, Boomer/Workmaster Tractors. Fits ISM N844 engines.

Part numbers vary strictly by machine serial number and emission tier. Must be ordered blank and flashed by a dealer, or ordered pre-programmed to the machine's VIN/Serial.
