New Holland ENG 3969 – ISM-DI ENGINE: Quick Response definition error
Issue description
The ECU detects that the injector calibration codes (QR/IQA codes) stored in its memory are invalid, missing, corrupted, or improperly formatted.

Check the cause
Verify recent service history to see if the Engine ECU was recently flashed, if the battery died or was disconnected improperly, or if any fuel injectors were recently replaced without programming.
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and read the current injector QR codes stored in the Engine ECU memory.
Remove the engine covers as necessary to visually inspect the physical QR codes printed on the top of each fuel injector installed in the engine.
Compare the physical codes on the injectors to the codes stored in the ECU.
Check for accompanying faults like 3970 (ECU Memory Fault) or 3971 (Engine ECU Memory Error), which indicate the ECU has suffered an internal memory failure.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the machine's diagnostic port.
Turn ignition ON
Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).
Navigate to programming menu
Navigate to the Engine Controller (ISM-DI) programming menu within the EST software.
Select injector programming
Select the injector programming or 'Quick Response data writing' function.
Enter QR codes
Carefully enter the exact alphanumeric QR codes printed on each physical injector into the corresponding cylinder fields (Cylinders 1 through 4) in the software.
Write data to ECU
Save and write the data to the ECU.
Cycle ignition and clear codes
Cycle the ignition key off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Clear the fault codes.
Replace Engine ECU
If the EST software refuses to write the codes, or if the 3969 code returns immediately alongside ECU memory errors (3970/3971), the Engine ECU's internal memory is permanently corrupted. In this case, the Engine ECU must be replaced and programmed from scratch.
Parts you might need
(4)Fuel Injector (Common Rail)
131406360If a faulty injector is replaced, its new QR code MUST be programmed into the ECU to resolve/prevent the 3969 fault.

Fuel Injector (Common Rail)
SBA131406360For Shibaura/ISM-DI engines. If a faulty injector is replaced, its new QR code MUST be programmed into the ECU to resolve/prevent the 3969 fault.
Engine Control Module (ECU)
Required only if the ECU memory has failed and cannot retain the Quick Response data.
