ENG 433

New Holland ENG 433 – Engine Controller / Engine ECU (ENG): Boost Pressure level disagrees with engine operation conditions (speed & power)

Issue description

The engine's control system is detecting a discrepancy between the actual boost pressure measured by the boost pressure sensor and the expected boost pressure calculated for the engine's current RPM and load (power output).

Check the cause

  1. Check for associated boost pressure sensor voltage codes, such as ENG 122 (voltage too high), ENG 123 (voltage too low), or ENG 124 (level exceeded warning limit).

  2. Inspect the air intake system for physical issues that would cause low or erratic boost, such as a clogged air filter, collapsed intake hoses, or leaks in the charge-air cooler piping.

  3. Inspect the boost pressure sensor's wiring harness and connector for corrosion, chafing, or loose pins that could cause erratic signal voltage.

  4. Verify turbocharger operation, ensuring the turbocharger is spooling correctly and that there are no exhaust leaks prior to the turbo that could reduce turbine drive pressure.

Repair steps

  1. Visual Inspection

    Thoroughly inspect the engine's air intake and turbocharger plumbing. Tighten any loose clamps and replace any cracked hoses or heavily soiled air filters.

  2. Harness Repair

    If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a corroded connector at the boost pressure sensor, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  3. Sensor Replacement

    If the intake system is sealed, the turbocharger is functioning, and the wiring is intact, the boost pressure sensor itself is likely providing skewed data to the ECU. Locate the boost pressure sensor on the intake manifold and replace it.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

    Use a compatible diagnostic code reader or the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the DTCs from the Engine ECU. Run the machine under load to verify that the boost pressure matches operating conditions and that code ENG 433 does not return.
