New Holland ENG 434 – Engine Controller (Engine ECM / ENG): Unswitched 12 volt supply voltage disconnected without normal key off sequence.

The continuous (unswitched) 12-volt battery power supply to the engine controller was interrupted or lost before the operator turned off the ignition key. Because the power was cut abruptly, the controller was unable to perform its normal power-down and data-saving sequence.

   Inspect the battery terminals and main ground connections for loose or heavily corroded cables that can cause momentary drops in the unswitched 12V supply.

   Trace the unswitched 12V power supply wiring from the battery to the Engine ECM. Look for chafed wires, loose connector pins at the ECM, or damaged inline fuse holders.

   Check the main engine power relays and fuses to ensure the main relay is not failing, opening too early, or dropping out due to vibration.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Clean and tighten battery connections

   Clean and tighten all battery posts and cable clamps.

   Inspect and replace ECM fuse

   Locate the unswitched 12V supply fuse for the Engine ECM in the power distribution box. Replace the fuse if it is blown or if the blades are corroded.

   Inspect and replace main power relay

   Locate the main power relay for the Engine ECM. If the relay is loose in its socket or suspected of internal failure (dropping voltage under load), replace the relay.

   Inspect and repair wiring harness

   Inspect the wiring harness leading directly to the Engine ECM. Repair any broken or exposed wires using proper soldering and heat-shrink techniques.

   Reconnect battery and verify repair

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the fault codes. Run the machine to verify the code does not return during operation or after a normal key-off sequence.
