New Holland ENG 444 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Low voltage detected at OEM 5 volt supply.

The 5-volt reference circuit that powers OEM-installed sensors has dropped below the acceptable voltage threshold (typically below 4.75 VDC). This is usually caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or a failed/shorted sensor pulling the reference voltage down.

   Turn the keyswitch OFF and disconnect the sensors on the OEM 5-volt supply circuit one at a time (start with the accelerator position sensor and coolant level sensor)

   Turn the keyswitch ON and measure the voltage from the +5 volt SUPPLY pin to the RETURN (ground) pin at the sensor connector on the engine harness

   Evaluate readings: If the voltage returns to normal (4.75 to 5.25 VDC) after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor has an internal short. If the voltage remains low with all sensors unplugged, the fault is in the wiring harness or the ECM

   Check for a short circuit between the +5 volt supply wire and any other wire in the vehicle harness or a short to ground

   Turn keyswitch OFF

   Turn the keyswitch to the "OFF" position before disconnecting any harnesses to prevent ECM damage.

   Inspect Connectors

   Check the ECM and sensor connectors for pushed-back pins, moisture, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to ground is found in the harness during the diagnostic checks, repair or replace the damaged section of the OEM wiring harness.

   Replace Faulty Sensor

   If unplugging a sensor restored the 5-volt reference, install a new sensor.

   Re-test

   Reconnect all components. Turn the keyswitch ON and connect your electronic service tool (e.g., INSITE or CNH EST).

   Clear Codes

   Clear the inactive fault codes. Start the engine and let it idle for at least 1 minute to verify that the fault code status changes to INACTIVE and the Check Engine light extinguishes.
