New Holland ENG 482 – Engine Controller (Engine ECU / EDC): Fuel Pressure Sensor voltage low
Issue description
This code indicates that the engine control module is receiving a voltage signal from the fuel rail pressure sensor that is below the minimum acceptable threshold. Technically, this usually points to an electrical circuit malfunction rather than a mechanical fuel issue. Common causes include a short to ground in the sensor's signal wire, a broken wire, a loss of the 5-volt reference supply to the sensor, or an internally shorted/failed fuel pressure sensor.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the fuel pressure sensor for chafing, melting, or rodent damage
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals
Turn the key to the ON position (engine off) and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor connector is receiving a steady 5-volt reference signal and has a solid ground
Test the signal wire for continuity between the sensor connector and the Engine ECU harness, and check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
Monitor the live fuel pressure voltage with a CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). If the voltage reads 0V or stays pinned low regardless of engine cranking, and the wiring tests good, the sensor has failed
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the ignition, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Sensor
Locate the fuel pressure sensor, which is threaded directly into the high-pressure common fuel rail.
Removal
Depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical pigtail from the sensor. Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from entering the open fuel rail.
Unthread the Sensor
Use a wrench to carefully unscrew the faulty fuel pressure sensor from the rail. Have a rag ready to catch residual diesel fuel.
Installation
Thread the new fuel pressure sensor into the rail by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it to the OEM torque specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.
Verification
Turn the key ON to prime the fuel system. Start the engine and inspect the sensor fitting for fuel leaks. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the ENG 482 inactive code from the ECU memory.
