ENG 483

New Holland ENG 483 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Rear Bank Post Actuactor Pressure voltage high

Issue description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the signal voltage from the rear bank fuel rail pressure sensor is too high (typically greater than 4.75 VDC for more than 3 seconds).

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T9060 Tractor
  • New Holland TJ530 Tractor
  • New Holland CR9080 Combine
  • New Holland CR9090 Combine

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the fuel rail pressure sensor wiring harness and connectors for physical damage, moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins

  2. Check for internal wire breakage going directly into the fuel rail pressure sensor connector (outer insulation may remain intact)

  3. Perform a voltage supply test by disconnecting the sensor and measuring the supply voltage at the connector from the ECM (should be a steady 5 VDC)

  4. Test the signal wire for a short circuit to the 5-volt supply or a short to battery voltage

  5. Use New Holland EST or Cummins INSITE to monitor the Injector Metering Rail 2 pressure voltage live data to verify if the voltage is pegged high

Repair steps

  1. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position and allow the ECM to power down completely.

  2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness from the Injector Metering Rail 2 (Rear Bank) Pressure Sensor.

  3. If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or short in the harness near the connector, repair the wiring using an approved electrical repair connector/pigtail (Cummins Procedure 019-199).

  4. If the wiring, 5-volt supply, and ground circuits all test good, the sensor has failed internally and is shorting the signal high. Remove the faulty pressure sensor from the high-pressure fuel rail.

  5. Install the new fuel rail pressure sensor and torque to OEM specifications.

  6. Reconnect the engine wiring harness.

  7. Turn the keyswitch ON, start the engine, and let it idle for at least 1 minute. Verify that the fault code status changes to INACTIVE and the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp turns off. Clear the inactive codes using your diagnostic tool.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (Injector Metering Rail 2 / Rear Bank)

    Cummins 4954245

Fits Cummins QSX15 / ISX 15L engines used in New Holland agricultural applications. Also crosses to 1760323 or 5PP5-3. Do not confuse this with the oil pressure sensor, part 4921511, which looks similar but operates on a different pressure scale.
