New Holland ENG 493 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine Controller: The Injection Control Identifier Circuit in the harness has failed.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an open circuit, short, or missing signal from the identifier circuit built into the engine wiring harness. When it fails, the ECM cannot properly verify the injection control hardware.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness for visible damage, chafing, melted sections, or broken wires, particularly around the fuel injection control routing.

   Disconnect the harness connectors at the ECM and the injection control valve. Check for loose connections, corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance of the Injection Control Identifier Circuit through the specified connector terminals to check for an open circuit or a short to ground.

   Verify that the ECM is receiving the correct unswitched 12-volt supply and that battery voltage is not dropping below operating thresholds.

   Safety First

   Turn off the engine, set the parking brake, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the Fault

   Trace the engine wiring harness from the ECM to the injection control system to locate the identifier circuit/transorb.

   Repair or Replace Wiring

   If a broken wire or damaged connector is found, repair it using an OEM-approved wiring repair kit. If the identifier resistor/transorb itself has failed internally (open circuit), that specific harness section or the entire engine wiring harness must be replaced.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect all electrical connectors, ensuring they click into place and are free of debris.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as the New Holland Electronic Service Tool or Jaltest) to clear the ENG 493 fault code from the ECM's memory.

   Test Run

   Start the machine and verify that the engine operates smoothly and the fault code does not return.
