New Holland ENG 524 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Error detected on high speed governor droop selection switch

The ECM detects an invalid, out-of-range, or missing signal from the droop switch circuit. The operator cannot select an alternate high-speed governor droop, and the engine will automatically default to the normal droop setting.

   Connect a diagnostic service tool to monitor the droop switch state; if it changes correctly, the issue may be intermittent.

   Test the switch resistance with a multimeter (3-position: Open, Closed, 1500-ohms; 2-position: Open, Closed).

   Check for open circuits, shorts to ground, and shorts between pins in the engine and OEM cab harnesses, specifically at pin 24 or 26 of the engine harness.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during harness testing.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the high-speed governor droop selection switch in the cab (refer to the specific OEM operator manual for the exact dash/console location).

   Test the Switch

   Disconnect the switch from the OEM harness. Use a multimeter to test the resistance across the switch terminals in all positions. If the readings do not match the specifications (Open / Closed / 1500-ohms), the switch has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Inspect the Wiring

   If the switch tests good, trace the wiring from the cab switch down to the Engine ECM (specifically targeting input pin 24 or 26). Look for chafed wires, corrosion at the bulkhead connectors, or pinched harnesses. Repair any damaged wiring.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the switch and ECM harnesses. Restore battery power. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code.

   Verify Repair

   Toggle the droop selection switch through all its positions while the engine is running to ensure the fault code does not return.
