New Holland ENG 582 – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): Fuel inlet Pressure Sensor voltage is too low.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is receiving a signal voltage from the fuel inlet pressure sensor that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically indicates an electrical issue such as a short to ground in the sensor signal circuit, an open circuit, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Fuel Inlet Pressure Sensor for chafing, melting, or physical damage that could cause a short to ground or an open circuit.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins on both the sensor and the harness side. Look for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.

   Turn the key to the ON position (engine off). Using a multimeter, check the sensor connector for the proper reference voltage (typically 5V) and a good ground from the ECM.

   Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the ECM for continuity and ensure it is not shorted to the chassis ground.

   Power Down

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or a short to ground in the harness, repair the damaged section using OEM-approved wiring repair methods (e.g., heat-shrink butt connectors) or replace the harness section.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring, 5V reference, and ground all test perfectly, the sensor has failed internally. Locate the Fuel Inlet Pressure Sensor, clean the area around it, unscrew the faulty sensor and install the new one. Be sure to lubricate any O-rings with clean diesel fuel before installation.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or an equivalent diagnostic scanner to clear the inactive ENG 582 code.

   Test Run

   Start the engine and verify that the fuel pressure reads correctly on the diagnostic tool and that the fault code does not return.
