New Holland ENG 599 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Engine is being shutdown based on OEM input.
Issue description
An external Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) device, sensor, or safety switch has sent a signal to the engine controller commanding it to shut down. This happens when an OEM-defined input (such as an auxiliary pressure limit, temperature limit, or safety interlock) exceeds its calibrated protection threshold.

Check the cause
Turn the keyswitch ON and connect an electronic service tool (e.g., CNH EST or Cummins INSITE) to read data.
Check for active or inactive counts of Fault Code 599.
Look at the freeze frame data or dual-output configuration to determine which specific OEM input (e.g., OEM switch input or OEM pressure input) triggered the shutdown.
Verify that the ECM calibration is correct and up to date, as incorrect parameters can falsely trigger dual-output shutdowns.
Refer to the specific machine's wiring diagram to locate the auxiliary device or safety interlock responsible for the identified input.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Hook up the electronic service tool to the machine's diagnostic port to confirm ENG 599 is the active shutdown command.
Trace the OEM Input
Once the specific triggering parameter is identified via the service tool (e.g., a transmission protection switch, hydraulic temperature sensor, or implement safety switch), locate the component on the machine.
Inspect the Circuit
Inspect the identified OEM sensor, switch, and its associated wiring harness for physical damage, short circuits, or open circuits.
Verify Operating Conditions
Determine if the sensor is accurately reporting a critical machine condition (e.g., actual loss of hydraulic pressure) or if the sensor itself has failed.
Repair/Replace
Correct the underlying operating condition, repair the damaged wiring, or replace the faulty OEM sensor/switch.
Clear and Test
Clear the fault codes using the service tool. Run the engine under load to verify that the OEM input remains within normal limits and the engine no longer shuts down.
