FAB

New Holland FAB – Transmission Controller / Central Controller (XCM): Clutch B Solenoid Open Circuit Or Short To Ground

Issue description

Indicates an electrical fault where the control module detects that the circuit for the transmission's Clutch B solenoid is either broken (open circuit) or has shorted out to a ground source. When this code is active, the transmission controller will typically disable the affected clutch, which can result in a loss of specific gears or a complete transmission disablement depending on the model.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Clutch B solenoid connector (C027) and the central controller (XCM) connectors (C533 and C535) for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture.

  2. Disconnect the Clutch B solenoid and measure the resistance across its pins with a digital multimeter (should be approximately 10 Ohms).

  3. If the solenoid tests okay, disconnect the transmission harness from the XCM controller and test the specific wire for Clutch B for continuity from end to end (to rule out an open circuit).

  4. Check for continuity from the Clutch B wire to the tractor chassis/ground (to rule out a short to ground).

Repair steps

  1. Resolve the Wiring/Component Fault

If the solenoid failed the resistance test, remove and replace the Clutch B solenoid valve located on the transmission control valve block. If a short or open circuit was found in the harness, repair the damaged wire or replace the transmission wiring harness. If the harness, connectors, and solenoid all test perfectly, the central controller (XCM) may have an internal fault and require replacement.

  2. Reassemble

Reconnect all wiring harnesses securely, ensuring weather-tight seals are intact.

  3. Clear Codes

Turn the key on and use the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool to clear the FAB error code.

  4. Test Operation

Start the tractor and test the transmission through all gears to ensure normal operation and verify that the code does not return.
