New Holland FCD – Transmission Controller: Clutch D Not Calibrated
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the transmission's "Clutch D" has not been successfully calibrated. As a result, the Electronic Management Unit disables or limits the use of this clutch, leading to poor clutch performance or a failure to shift into the gears associated with Clutch D.

Check the cause
Attempt Dynamic Calibration: Run the transmission calibration procedure. If the code clears and the tractor operates normally, no further repair is needed.
Check for 'U' Calibration Errors: During calibration, monitor the dash for specific 'U' codes that halt the process. Common preconditions that fail include: U19: Oil temperature below 20°C (must be warmed up), U21 / U22: Engine RPM too low / too high, U23: Shuttle lever is in neutral, U26: Clutch pedal is not released, U31: Output speed sensed (tractor is moving), U36: Maximum allowed clutch calibration value exceeded.
Inspect the PWM Valve: If calibration fails without a specific 'U' code, the issue is likely a faulty solenoid, a faulty hydraulic circuit, or a mechanical fault. Remove the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) valve for Clutch D, clean it, and reinstall it to see if calibration can be performed successfully.
Pressure Test: If calibration still fails, perform a pressure test on Clutch D. The pressure should be approximately 16 bar.
Repair steps
Clean/Replace Solenoid
If the pressure test fails or calibration is still blocked after cleaning the PWM valve, replace the Clutch D PWM solenoid valve with a new unit.
Re-test Pressure
After replacing the solenoid, check the pressure again. If it reaches 16 bar, attempt calibration.
Internal Hydraulic/Mechanical Repair
If the pressure is still low (below 16 bar), the transmission has internal leakage. You will need to split the tractor and access the clutch packs.
Inspect Seals and Discs
Check for clutch piston seal leakage or leakage to the piston from the PWM valve manifold. Inspect the Clutch D friction plates and steel plates for mechanical wear or burning. Replace the piston seals and clutch pack as necessary.
Reassembly
When reassembling the transmission front cover and manifolds, apply a couple of drops of New Holland Thread Seal (OEM 82995768) to the specified retaining screws.
Final Calibration
Refill the transmission fluid, warm the tractor up (above 20°C), and perform the final transmission calibration to clear the FCD code.
