IC 1009

New Holland IC 1009 – IC: Hydraulic Oil Temperature - Over Temperature

Issue description

The system has detected that the hydraulic oil temperature has exceeded the maximum safe operating threshold of 210° F (99° C). This can be caused by a genuine overheating condition in the hydraulic system or an electrical fault (such as an open circuit) in the temperature sender circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland 200 Series Skid Steer Loaders
  • New Holland Compact Track Loaders
  • L218
  • L220
  • L223
  • L225
  • L230
  • C232
  • C238
  • Case Alpha Series skid steers
  • SR130
  • SR160
  • SR175
  • SV185

Check the cause

  1. Verify the actual physical temperature of the hydraulic fluid to determine if the machine is genuinely overheating.

  2. Ensure the hydraulic oil cooler is not clogged with debris, the cooling fan is operating correctly, and the hydraulic fluid is at the proper level.

  3. If the machine is not genuinely overheating, check the wiring harness for an open circuit.

  4. Perform a continuity test: Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery. Disconnect the X-OILTMP connector from the Hydraulic Oil Temperature Sender and the X-C23 connector from the Instrument Cluster. Check for continuity between Pin 1 of the X-OILTMP connector and Pin 2 of the X-C23 connector.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Wiring Issues

If the continuity test fails, locate the break in the wiring harness between the sender and the instrument cluster and repair or replace the affected wire.

  2. Replace the Sender

If the wiring harness has good continuity and there are no shorts to ground/power, the HYDRAULIC OIL TEMPERATURE SENDER has likely failed internally (opened). Locate the sender on the hydraulic reservoir/valve block. Relieve hydraulic system pressure and drain fluid below the sensor level if necessary. Remove the faulty sender and install the new OEM replacement. Reconnect the X-OILTMP wiring harness connector.

  3. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery and use a diagnostic tool (or the machine's cluster interface) to clear the DTC from the Instrument Cluster memory. Run the machine to verify the code does not return.
