New Holland IC 1030 – IC (Instrument Cluster): Foot Throttle Sensor: Out of Range - Short to Ground / Open Circuit

The instrument cluster detects a problem with the signal coming from the foot throttle sensor. The fault is triggered when the foot throttle sensor voltage drops below the normal operating range (under 200 mV for 5 seconds), indicating that the sensor's circuit is either broken (open circuit) or the signal wire is shorted directly to ground.

   Use a multimeter to monitor the foot throttle sensor signal voltage and verify if it drops under 200 mV for more than 5 seconds.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the foot throttle sensor and the Instrument Cluster for chafed wires (short to ground) or broken wires/loose connector pins (open circuit).

   Verify that the instrument cluster itself is functioning properly and its connectors are fully seated.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle sensor assembly, which is mounted directly to the foot pedal linkage in the cab.

   Inspect the Connector

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical plug. Check for dirt, moisture, or corrosion inside the pins. Clean if necessary.

   Test the Circuit

   With the key ON (engine OFF), test the connector for a 5V reference signal and a good ground. Test the signal wire for continuity back to the Instrument Cluster.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring harness tests good (no shorts to ground or open wires) but the sensor output remains below 200 mV, the sensor's internal potentiometer has failed. Remove the mounting bracket hardware and install a new foot throttle sensor.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Plug the sensor back in, reconnect the battery, and turn the key on. Clear the inactive IC 1030 code from the instrument cluster and test the pedal to ensure smooth RPM operation without voltage dropouts.
