New Holland IC 4044 – Instrument Cluster (IC): Hydraulic Oil Temperature Sender - Open Circuit

Triggers when the controller detects that the voltage signal from the hydraulic oil temperature sender is too high, which the system interprets as an open circuit or a short to the power supply (+V).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the hydraulic oil temperature sender for obvious breaks, rubbing, or disconnected plugs

   Perform a continuity test by disconnecting the sender connector (X-OILTMP) and the Instrument Cluster connector (X-C23), checking between Pin 1 of the sender and Pin 2 of the cluster

   Check the wire run for a short circuit to ground

   If the wiring harness passes all continuity and short tests, suspect a failed internal resistor (open circuit) within the sender itself

   Park the machine on a level surface, lower the boom, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the hydraulic oil temperature sender, which is threaded into the hydraulic oil reservoir/tank.

   Unplug the electrical connector from the sender.

   If diagnostic tests proved the wiring is faulty, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

   If the sender is faulty, place a catch pan beneath the reservoir area to catch any residual hydraulic fluid, then unthread and remove the faulty sender.

   Thread the new hydraulic oil temperature sender into the reservoir and tighten to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the new sender.

   Reconnect the negative battery cable, turn the key on, and verify that the IC 4044 fault code has cleared.

   Top off hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the swap.
