IC 4952

New Holland IC 4952 – IC (Instrument Cluster): Hydraulic Enable (Mechanical Machines) - Hydraulic Interlock Solenoid Open Circuit

Issue description

The control module has sensed an open circuit condition in the Hydraulic Interlock circuit. The fault becomes active when the ignition is ON, the hydraulic enable commanded state is high, but the hydraulic enable solenoid fails to energize due to a break in the electrical path.

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L215
  • L218
  • L220
  • L228
  • L-Series
  • C-Series
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Instrument Cluster connector (X-C23) and Hydraulic Interlock Solenoid connections for security, corrosion, abrasion, or bent pins

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Instrument Cluster to the Hydraulic Interlock Solenoid for any signs of chafing, damage, or incorrect attachment

  3. Test the ON/OFF release valve hydraulic solenoid coil resistance (should be approximately 12 Ohms)

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn the key switch to the OFF position to safely disconnect components.

  2. Disconnect the Solenoid

Locate the Hydraulic Interlock Solenoid on the hydraulic control valve block and disconnect its electrical connector.

  3. Test the Solenoid

Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL) or significantly deviates from 12Ω, the solenoid coil has an internal open circuit and the solenoid must be replaced.

  4. Test the Wiring

If the solenoid measures ~12Ω, the open circuit is in the wiring harness. Perform a continuity test between the solenoid connector and the Instrument Cluster connector X-C23. Locate and repair the broken wire or replace the damaged connector terminal.

  5. Reassembly and Clearing

Reconnect all harnesses. Turn the ignition ON, clear the fault codes via the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool, and command the hydraulic enable switch to verify the code does not return and the hydraulics unlock properly.
