New Holland ICU 14005 – ICU: PTO shaft speed data is ERROR or NOT AVAILABLE state from PTO

The control system is failing to receive a valid rotational speed signal from the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft speed sensor. Without this feedback, the machine's control system cannot monitor or automatically adjust the PTO speed for attached implements.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connections for breaks, chafing, or shorts to verify if the sensor is actually faulty.

   Disconnect the sensor and clean the electrical connector thoroughly to ensure dirt or corrosion isn't causing a loss of signal.

   Check the air gap between the tip of the sensor and the internal tone wheel to ensure it is not misaligned or excessively gapped.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the PTO speed sensor, which is mounted externally on the rear housing near the PTO shaft.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove

   Unbolt the retaining hardware and carefully pull the faulty sensor out of the housing.

   Prep the Area

   Clean the mounting port to ensure no dirt or debris falls into the PTO housing during installation.

   Install

   Insert the new PTO speed sensor. Ensure it is seated correctly to maintain the proper air gap from the tone wheel.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather-tight seal clicks into place.

7. 7

   Clear Codes & Test

   Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and verify that the PTO RPMs are registering on the dash. Clear the ICU 14005 fault code from the system using a diagnostic tool or CAN-bus DTC eraser.
