ICU 14006

New Holland ICU 14006 – ICU: GOV ENGINE speed data is ERROR or NOT AVAILABLE state from GOV

Issue description

The instrument cluster is failing to receive valid engine speed (RPM) data from the engine control module over the CAN data bus. The data packet is either missing entirely or is being broadcast with an error status.

Applies to these machines

  • T4
  • T5
  • T4000
  • T5000
  • T6000
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM
  • TS
  • TSA
  • TJ
  • Magnum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying CAN bus codes (e.g., ICU 14011 or ICU 14018) to determine if this is a broader network failure or power loss to the GOV rather than an isolated sensor issue.

  2. Inspect power supply and fuses (look for codes 10022 or 10024) to ensure the GOV module has not lost power due to a blown fuse.

  3. Inspect the engine speed sensor (crankshaft/camshaft sensor) for physical damage, debris, or a disconnected plug.

  4. Test the wiring harness for continuity, shorts to ground, or open circuits on the CAN bus lines (yellow/green wires) between the GOV and ICU, and the wiring between the engine speed sensor and the GOV.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Plug in the diagnostic tool to read all active and stored DTCs to confirm if the GOV is communicating.

  2. Verify Sensor Integrity

Locate the engine speed sensor on the engine block. Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins for corrosion or moisture.

  3. Test / Replace the Sensor

If the wiring to the sensor is intact and the GOV is online, remove the engine speed sensor. Test its resistance/voltage output according to the OEM service manual. If it fails, install a replacement sensor.

  4. Repair CAN Wiring

If the entire GOV is offline, trace the CAN bus harness from the engine controller to the cab bulkhead and up to the instrument cluster. Repair any chafed wires or replace damaged connector pins.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Use a DTC eraser or diagnostic tool to clear the ICU 14006 code. Start the tractor and verify that the engine RPM is accurately displayed on the instrument cluster.
