New Holland ICU 14010 – ICU: PTO controller off line

The primary instrumentation module has lost CAN bus communication with the dedicated Power Take-Off (PTO) controller.

   Check for companion code ICU 14011 (if present, the entire CAN bus is down, not just the PTO controller).

   Inspect the fuse box for blown fuses related to the PTO controller system (unswitched or switched 12V power).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO controller for chafing, rodent damage, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the PTO controller and use a multimeter to verify solid 12V power and a clean ground connection.

   Measure resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the controller connector (should read approximately 60 ohms).

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the PTO Controller

   Locate the module responsible for the PTO. Note: On models like the T6000/TS-A, the PTO controller functions are often integrated into the rear transmission/chassis modules (identified by codes like DA, DR, DB, or DS depending on the transmission type, such as 16x16 or 24x24).

   Clean and Inspect Connectors

   Unplug the connectors to the PTO controller. Check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If power, ground, or CAN lines failed your diagnostic checks, trace the harness back to the cab/ICU and repair the broken wire or replace the damaged harness section.

   Replace the Controller

   If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good but the module remains offline, the PTO controller has failed internally. Unbolt the old module and install the replacement.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and clear the inactive fault codes. A new controller will likely require programming/calibration using the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) to configure it to your specific tractor's options (e.g., auto PTO set points, 540/1000 RPM configurations).
