New Holland ICU 14013 – ICU (Instrument Control Unit): TRANSMISSION Off Line
Issue description
Communication failure on the vehicle's CAN (Controller Area Network) data bus. The instrument cluster is no longer receiving data messages from the transmission controller, meaning the transmission module has dropped off the network or lost power.
Applies to these machines
12 machines- New Holland T6
- New Holland T7
- New Holland T8.xxx
- New Holland T9
- New Holland TS90
- New Holland TS100

- New Holland TSA
Check the cause
Check Fuses and Power Supply: Verify that the battery voltage is sufficient and check all fuses supplying power to the Transmission Electronic Control Unit (TECU). A blown fuse will cause the module to power down and go "offline".
Inspect Connectors: Locate the Transmission Controller and the ICU. Inspect the wiring harness connectors for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Test the CAN Bus Network: Use a multimeter to check the CAN bus wiring between the ICU and the transmission controller for continuity. Check for shorts to ground or shorts to power.
Verify Module Grounds: Ensure the transmission controller has a clean, solid ground connection to the chassis.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during testing.
Clean and Reseat Connections
Disconnect the harness at the Transmission Controller and the ICU. Spray the pins with electrical contact cleaner, allow them to dry, and firmly reconnect them.
Repair Wiring
If the continuity test reveals a break or short in the CAN High or CAN Low wires, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness (e.g., the ICU wire harness).
Replace the Controller
If the wiring, power, and ground circuits all test good but the transmission controller still fails to communicate with the ICU, the Transmission Controller itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced.
Reprogramming
Install the new Transmission Controller. A dealer will likely need to use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to flash the correct firmware, calibrate the transmission (e.g., clutch calibrations), and clear the inactive ICU 14013 fault code.
