New Holland ICU 14014 – ICU: ENGINE coolant temperature data is ERROR or NOT AVAILABLE state from GOV.
Issue description
The instrument cluster is not receiving valid engine coolant temperature readings from the engine controller over the CAN bus network. The engine controller is either detecting a fault with the coolant temperature sensor itself (such as an open circuit, short, or out-of-range reading) or there is a communication breakdown preventing the data from being broadcasted.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes (ICU 14018 'GOV Off Line' or ICU 14011 'Communications Lost'). If present, the issue is likely a CAN bus or ECU power failure rather than the sensor.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the engine coolant temperature sensor (on the thermostat housing or cylinder head) and the engine ECU (GOV) for broken wires, corrosion, or shorts to ground/power.
Test the sensor's electrical resistance with a multimeter to see if it matches the manufacturer's specified ohms for the ambient temperature. An open circuit or dead short indicates a failed thermistor.
Repair steps
Safety First
Disconnect the battery before working on electrical components. Allow the engine to cool completely to prevent severe burns from hot, pressurized coolant.
Drain Coolant
Drain enough coolant from the radiator/block to lower the fluid level below the sensor's mounting location on the engine.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical wiring connector from the old temperature sensor.
Remove Sensor
Use a wrench to carefully unscrew and remove the old sensor from the engine block or thermostat housing.
Install New Sensor
Apply a thread sealant (if not pre-applied) to the threads of the new OEM sensor. Screw it into place and tighten it to the manufacturer's recommended torque specification.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.
Refill and Bleed
Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant mixture. Start the engine and bleed the cooling system to remove any trapped air pockets.
Final Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and verify that the ICU 14014 code has cleared and the temperature gauge is reading accurately.
