ICU 14015

New Holland ICU 14015 – ICU: Engine Intake Air Temperature data is _ERROR|| or _NOT AVAILABLE|| state from GOV.

Issue description

This code indicates a communication or sensor data failure. The Instrument Cluster Unit is expecting to receive the engine's intake air temperature reading over the CAN data bus from the engine governor/controller, but the data being broadcast is either flagged as an error or is completely missing.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 Series
  • T7 Series
  • T8 Series
  • T9 Series
  • TS-A Series
  • Boomer Series
  • CR Series
  • CR9090
  • CX Series
  • CX8080
  • CX8090

Check the cause

  1. Locate the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (often a combined MAP/IAT sensor on the intake manifold). Check the sensor connector for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the IAT sensor and the Engine Control Module (GOV) for chafing, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

  3. Check for other active CAN bus or GOV offline codes (such as ICU 14018 GOV Off Line). If multiple modules are offline, troubleshoot the CAN bus backbone (Yellow/Green wires) between the engine ECU and the ICU.

  4. Verify that the engine ECU is receiving proper battery voltage and has clean grounds, as low voltage can cause sensor reference voltage drops or CAN broadcast failures.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Test the Sensor

Disconnect the IAT/MAP sensor pigtail. Using a multimeter, check the sensor's resistance across the temperature pins. If the circuit is open or out of specification for the ambient temperature, the sensor has failed internally.

  3. Replace the Sensor

Remove the retaining bolt(s) holding the sensor in the intake manifold. Pull the old sensor out, lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor, and press it into place. Torque the retaining bolt to OEM spec and reconnect the harness.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the sensor tests fine, perform a continuity test from the sensor connector back to the Engine ECU pinout. Repair any broken wires or replace the pigtail connector if the terminals are spread.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic tool (or onboard diagnostic menu) to clear the ICU 14015 code. Start the engine and verify that the intake air temperature reads correctly on the instrument cluster.
