New Holland INST 1015 – INST: Seat Switch may be stuck closed

The operator presence switch (seat switch) is located in the seat cushion. It is designed to close the circuit when the operator sits in the seat and open the circuit when the operator gets up. The system monitors this activity for safety. If the instrumentation controller detects that the seat switch has remained in the "closed" position continuously for over 24 engine hours, it assumes the switch is physically stuck, shorted, or has been intentionally bypassed, and logs this fault code.

   Check the seat switch under the seat cushion to ensure it is not physically jammed, bound by debris, or intentionally bypassed (e.g., wires jumpered together).

   Disconnect the seat switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity. The switch should be 'Normally Open' (no continuity) when the seat is empty, and 'Closed' (continuity) when weight is applied.

   If the switch functions correctly, check the wiring harness running from the seat switch back to the Instrumentation Controller for pinched wires, chafing, or a short to ground.

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to ensure safety.

   Locate the seat switch connector under the operator's seat and unplug it.

   Perform the multimeter continuity test on the switch.

   If the switch fails the test (reads closed while the seat is empty), remove the faulty micro-switch from its housing in the seat cushion and install the replacement switch.

   If the switch passes the test, use a multimeter to trace the wiring harness back to the INST controller, repairing any shorts or damaged wires found in the circuit.

   Reconnect the switch and battery.

   Clear the fault codes from the Instrumentation Controller and cycle the seat switch (sit down and stand up) to ensure the module registers the change in state.
