New Holland INST 1034 – INST: Hydraulic oil filter switch is shorted to ground on power up

The controller is detecting a continuous ground signal from the hydraulic oil filter restriction switch immediately when the machine is turned on, which violates the expected normal open/closed state of the circuit during startup.

   Visually inspect the hydraulic oil filter switch on the filter housing, checking the sensor, electrical connector, and immediate wiring for visible damage, corrosion, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to check the signal wire on the harness side for continuity to ground (if continuity exists while unplugged, the harness is shorting against the chassis).

   If the harness tests good, test the switch itself for internal continuity to ground while the machine is off and unpressurized (if continuity exists, the switch has failed internally).

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Locate the Component

   Find the hydraulic oil filter switch (usually threaded into the hydraulic oil filter head/housing).

   Address Wiring Issues

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a harness short, trace the wire back toward the INST controller. Look for areas where the harness routes tightly against the metal chassis. Repair the damaged wire insulation and secure the harness with zip ties to prevent future chafing.

   Replace the Switch

   If the switch is internally shorted, unscrew the faulty switch from the filter housing. Clean the port, install the new OEM hydraulic oil filter switch, and tighten to factory specifications.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the switch. Reconnect the battery, power up the machine, and verify that the INST 1034 code is no longer active.
