New Holland INST 11011 – Instrument Controller (INST): Fuel Level Sensor Signal Too Low

Fuel level sensor signal voltage is out of range low (drops below 0.125 volts for 1 second), typically indicating an open circuit or a short to ground.

   Locate and Inspect the Sensor

   Locate the fuel level sensor on the top of the fuel tank. Disconnect connector C066 from the fuel level sensor.

   Clean and Inspect Connections

   Clean the connection, mating pins, and connector. Inspect pins A, B, and C in the connector for damage or corrosion.

   Test Sensor Power Supply

   Validate that the sensor is getting 8 volts at its power supply input at pin A. If there is 8 volts: Proceed to check the sensor ground. If there is NOT 8 volts: Check for 8 volts out of the instrument controller pin 8 at connector 61 (or C061).

   Test the Instrument Controller

   If there is not 8 volts at the controller, use the correct tool to pull the pin 8 terminal out. Determine if 8 volts is present on the controller pin when pin wire 8 is disconnected. If 8 volts is present on the bare pin: The controller is fine. Check for shorts to ground in the harness or an open circuit in the wire harness signal line between connector C066 and C061. If there is NOT 8 volts on the bare pin: The instrument controller has failed and must be replaced.

   Test the Sensor Resistance

   If the wiring and controller voltages are correct, you can test the sensor by placing it in a tall oil container and watching the voltage change when the sender is at different depths. If the signal remains out of range, replace the fuel level sender.
