New Holland INST 12011 – Instrumentation Controller (INST): Communications Lost with Armrest Controller

This fault code indicates a CAN data bus communication failure. Specifically, the instrumentation controller has lost communication with the armrest controller.

   Inspect the CAN data bus wiring between the instrumentation controller and the armrest controller for continuity or shorts.

   Inspect connector ends for damaged, bent, pushed-back, or dislocated pins.

   Verify that connector C137 is securely plugged into the armrest controller.

   Inspect the armrest housing and module for physical damage (e.g., check if self-tapping screws have pierced the Armrest Processor Module).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Clean Connections

   Unhook the main connections at the armrest controller and the transmission controller. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Test the Harness

   Using a multimeter, test the CAN bus lines between the INST module and the Armrest module to ensure there are no open circuits or shorts to ground.

   Replace the Module

   If the wiring harness, pins, and connectors test good, the failure is internal to the Armrest Processor Module. Remove the armrest cover, unbolt the faulty module, and install the replacement.

   Flash Software

   The new or remanufactured Armrest Processor Module is supplied blank. You must connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to download the machine-specific software to the module before the tractor will operate.
