New Holland INST 12121 – INST: Communications Lost with Color Performance Monitor

The tractor's internal network has lost the data connection to the main cabin display screen.

   Verify that the Color Performance Monitor is receiving adequate power and has a solid ground connection.

   Check the CAN bus data lines between the Instrumentation (INST) controller and the monitor for continuity.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connectors at the back of the monitor and at the INST controller for loose pins, corrosion, or physical damage (shorts to ground or open circuits).

   Disconnect Battery

   Always disconnect the machine's battery before performing electrical repairs to prevent short circuits.

   Access the Monitor and INST Controller

   Remove the necessary trim panels in the cab to access the rear of the Color Performance Monitor and the Instrumentation controller harness.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire, short, or corroded connector on the CAN bus or power lines, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

   Test the Monitor

   If the wiring is intact but the monitor remains offline or unresponsive, the monitor itself has likely failed internally.

   Replace or Refurbish the Monitor

   Install a replacement monitor. Note that replacement monitors often come with generic software and must be configured/calibrated by a dealer to match your specific tractor model and implement setup. Alternatively, third-party agricultural electronics repair services can replace failed internal LCDs or touchscreens on your existing unit.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the INST 12121 code and verify that communication has been restored.
