New Holland INST 13010 – Instrumentation Controller (INST / INST2): Engine Coolant Temperature sensor is failed in the Engine Controller
Issue description
This code indicates that the Engine Controller has detected a failure with the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, or there is a configuration mismatch where the instrumentation cluster is expecting data from an engine controller that is not present.

Check the cause
Verify engine operation to ensure the engine is running properly and not actually overheating.
Verify the configuration of the instrumentation cluster (recalibrate if it expects an engine controller that is not present).
Check for related voltage codes that pinpoint electrical failure (INST 13011 for short to ground, INST 13012 for open circuit/short to +V).
Check for a software execution error in the engine controller.
Repair steps
Inspect the Wiring Harness
Locate the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor on the engine block. Inspect the connector and the wiring harness leading back to the Engine Controller for chafing, broken wires, or corrosion.
Test the Sensor
Disconnect the ECT sensor and test its resistance with a multimeter. Compare the readings to the OEM specifications for the ambient temperature. If the sensor reads completely open (infinite resistance) or shorted (zero resistance), it has failed internally.
Check Controller Voltage
With the key ON and the sensor disconnected, probe the harness connector to ensure the Engine Controller is supplying the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) to the sensor.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring and reference voltage are good but the sensor fails the resistance test, remove the old sensor (be prepared for some coolant loss) and install a new Engine Coolant Temperature sensor.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the harness, top off the engine coolant, and clear the fault codes from the Instrumentation and Engine controllers. Run the machine to verify the code does not return.
