New Holland INST 13022 – Instrumentation Controller (INST): Transmission Oil Temperature sensor voltage is too high

The signal voltage returning from the transmission oil temperature sensor to the controller has exceeded the normal operating range, indicating an open circuit or a short to a power source (+V).

   Measure the internal resistance of the transmission oil temperature sensor using a multimeter to see if it is out of specification or completely open

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the instrumentation controller to the transmission oil temperature sensor for an open circuit (broken wire) or a short to power (+V)

   Verify the Code

   Access the instrument controller diagnostics to confirm INST 13022 is currently active.

   Inspect the Harness

   Visually inspect the wiring harness between the transmission oil temperature sensor and the instrumentation controller for chafing, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs.

   Test the Sensor

   Disconnect the transmission oil temperature sensor. Use a multimeter to check the sensor's resistance. If the sensor reads as an open circuit or is out of the acceptable resistance range, replace the sensor.

   Test the Circuit

   If the sensor tests good, use a multimeter to check the harness for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and check for voltage on the signal wire with the sensor unplugged (to rule out a short to +V). Repair or replace the wiring harness if faults are found.

   Evaluate the Controller

   If both the sensor and the wiring harness are in good working order, the fault lies within the instrumentation controller (hardware failure or software error). The controller may need to be reflashed or replaced.

   Clear and Test

   After repairs are made, clear the fault codes and operate the machine to ensure the code does not return.
