Issue description

This code indicates that when the fuel shut-off relay is latched, a current draw of greater than 500 milliamps is sensed at the fuel relay solenoid (specifically at Pin 13, connector CN2 on the instrument cluster). This fault is often triggered during a Level 1 critical warning event that initiates an engine shutdown to protect the machine.

Check the cause

  1. Check the instrument cluster for active Level 1 Critical Warnings (e.g., very high intake air-to-air temperature, very high engine coolant temperature, very low engine oil pressure, or very high transmission oil temperature) that may have intentionally latched the fuel shut-off relay.

  2. Measure the current draw at the fuel relay solenoid circuit to verify if it exceeds 500 milliamps at Pin 13, connector CN2 on the instrument cluster.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the instrument cluster (Connector CN2, Pin 13) and the fuel shut-off relay for any shorts to ground or exposed wires.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve critical warnings

    If the tractor shut down due to a Level 1 critical warning (e.g., overheating or low oil pressure), diagnose and repair the underlying mechanical issue first.

  2. Access the instrument cluster

    Locate connector CN2 on the back of the instrument cluster.

  3. Test the circuit

    Using a multimeter, test the circuit at Pin 13 for a short to ground.

  4. Test the relay

    Locate the fuel shut-off relay (often designated as KF or K3 in the fuse/relay panel depending on the model). Test the relay's internal resistance to see if it is internally shorted and pulling more than 500 milliamps.

  5. Replace faulty components

    If the wiring harness is shorted, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness. If the fuel shut-off relay is drawing excessive current, replace the relay.

  6. Clear codes

    After repairs, cycle the key and clear the fault codes from the Instrumentation Controller to verify the fix.
