New Holland INST 13051 – INST: Air to Air Intake Temperature sensor voltage is too low (short to ground)

The system is detecting a voltage signal from the sensor that has fallen below the acceptable operating range, typically caused by a grounded circuit or a failed sensor.

   Check the resistance of the air to air intake temperature sensor to see if it is internally shorted or failed

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the instrumentation controller to the air to air intake temperature sensor for a short to ground (e.g., chafed wires touching the chassis)

   Verify the operation of the instrumentation controller, as an internal failure can falsely pull the sensor voltage low

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the Air to Air Intake Temperature sensor on the engine's intake air piping/manifold.

   Disconnect and Test

   Unplug the sensor connector. Using a multimeter, test the resistance across the sensor pins. If the resistance is out of the specified range or shows a dead short, the sensor has failed and must be replaced.

   Check the Harness

   If the sensor tests good, use your multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the signal wire between the sensor connector and the Instrumentation Controller harness connector.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to ground is found in the harness, trace the wire to locate the pinch point or chafing. Repair the damaged wire and apply heat-shrink tubing or replace the harness section.

   Address the Controller

   If both the sensor and the wiring harness test perfectly fine, the Instrumentation Controller itself may have failed and will require replacement and reprogramming by a dealer.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect all components, turn the key on, and verify if the code changes from active to inactive. Clear the fault codes from the factory memory.
