New Holland L04 – Front Axle Suspension Microprocessor Unit: Front Axle Potentiometer Threshold Is Higher Than The Set Limit
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the front axle position sensor (potentiometer) that exceeds the maximum expected calibrated range (raw value > 970). When this fault is active, the active suspension system cannot determine the axle's height, disabling the auto-calibration procedure and preventing the suspension from leveling.

Check the cause
Access the tractor's H-menu/diagnostic menu to view the live front axle potentiometer value and verify if the value is stuck above 970
Inspect the physical installation of the potentiometer on the front axle, checking the operating arm, link rod, bracket, and circlip for bends, breaks, or disconnections
Test the wiring harness for a short circuit to power
Test for an open circuit on the signal ground wire, which will cause the sensor voltage to default to its maximum limit
Repair steps
Safely park the tractor on level ground, support the front chassis, and relieve hydraulic pressure from the suspension system.
Locate the front axle potentiometer.
Typically mounted on a bracket near the suspension cylinder with a link rod connecting it to the axle.
Repair or reattach the physical linkage.
Perform this if the rod, arm, or bracket is damaged or detached.
Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to verify 5V reference, ground, and signal continuity back to the suspension module.
Repair any wiring faults found.
Remove the faulty potentiometer.
If the wiring and mechanical linkage are intact but the signal value remains out of bounds, remove the circlip and retaining nuts to remove the faulty potentiometer.
Install the new potentiometer and reattach the operating arm and link rod.
Run the front axle suspension auto-calibration procedure.
You MUST run this procedure to teach the module the new sensor's minimum and maximum travel limits. The system will not function until calibration is complete.
