New Holland MFD 6004 – TCU (Transmission Control Unit) and Armrest Controller (ARM): Rear Diff Lock Switch Failed in Armrest

CAN-BUS error showing that the Rear Diff Lock Switch has failed in the armrest, the Auto Diff Lock Switch has failed in the Armrest (CCH Only), or there are communication problems between the TCU (Transmission Control Unit) controller and the Armrest controller.

   Perform a functional display test by turning the Diff Lock switch ON and OFF in the armrest to see if the Diff Lock icon responds on the instrument display

   Cycle the physical switch multiple times to check for sticking contacts caused by dirt or debris

   Inspect the CAN-BUS wiring harness between the Armrest controller and the TCU for open circuits or shorts to ground

   Cycle and Clean

   Vigorously cycle the Rear Diff Lock and Auto Diff Lock switches to free up any stuck internal contacts.

   Test Switch Continuity

   Remove the armrest control panel and test the Diff Lock switch for proper continuity when toggled.

   Inspect the CAN-BUS Lines

   Trace the wiring harness from the Armrest Controller to the TCU. Disconnect the harness and check for corrosion at the pins, repairing any damaged wires or loose connections.

   Replace the Switch

   If the wiring is intact and the switch fails the continuity test (or the display icon fails to toggle during the diagnostic check), replace the Diff Lock Switch assembly in the armrest.

   Clear Codes

   Reassemble the armrest, turn the key ON, and verify that the MFD 6004 code has moved to an inactive state or can be cleared from the display.
