NH 10004

New Holland NH 10004 – Suspension Control Module: Front Axle Potentiometer above threshold

Issue description

The system uses a potentiometer to monitor the height and travel of the suspended front axle. This code triggers when the sensor's signal voltage exceeds the maximum allowable limit (value > 970 on a 0-999 scale). This typically indicates a short circuit to power, a broken linkage, or a failed sensor. Auto-calibration will not work when this code is active.

Applies to these machines

  • T6 series
  • T7 series
  • T7.220
  • T7.235
  • T7.250
  • T7.260
  • T7.270
  • T6000 series
  • T7000 series
  • TM series
  • TSA series
  • MXM series
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • MXU series

Check the cause

  1. Access the tractor's diagnostic menu and check the live potentiometer value (a reading > 970 indicates it is out of bounds).

  2. Visually inspect the physical installation of the potentiometer on the front axle for a bent control rod, disconnected linkage, or physical damage.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the sensor and test for a short circuit to the 5V reference wire or an open ground.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the front axle is safely supported if hydraulic pressure is released.

  2. Repair/Replace Wiring

If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the harness, repair the damaged wiring.

  3. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact and the linkage is not physically jammed, the potentiometer itself has failed internally. Remove the mounting hardware and disconnect the sensor from the linkage.

  4. Reassembly

Install the new front axle potentiometer. If the repair involves replacing the suspension cylinder rod end or linkage components, apply New Holland Thread Lock and Seal to the rod end and tighten to 200Nm.

  5. Recalibrate

You must perform the Front Suspension Calibration procedure after replacing the sensor. If you do not, the module will throw a secondary code: NH 10024 - Front Suspension not calibrated.
