NH 1002

New Holland NH 1002 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) module or Hitch / Transmission control module: Radar disconnected

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the radar sensor, which measures true ground speed for wheel slip calculation, is either physically disconnected, has a damaged wiring harness, or has failed internally.

Applies to these machines

  • T5
  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • TM115 through TM190

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Locate the radar sensor (usually mounted under the cab or chassis, pointing down at the ground) and verify that the connector is physically plugged in.

  2. Harness Check: Trace the wiring harness from the radar sensor back to the main chassis harness. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or breaks caused by field debris.

  3. Connector Pin Inspection: Disconnect the radar sensor and inspect the pins inside the connector. Look for pushed-back pins, moisture intrusion, or green corrosion.

  4. Contextual Diagnosis: Note if the error occurred during a specific operation (e.g., lifting an implement or driving through heavy brush that could have snagged the wire).

Repair steps

  1. Clean and Reconnect

If the connector is loose or dirty, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect the harness. Clear the code and test drive the tractor to see if the ground speed registers on the dash.

  2. Repair the Harness

If a wire is broken or chafed, splice and repair the damaged section of the harness using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, or replace the radar adapter harness section entirely.

  3. Replace the Radar Sensor

If the wiring is intact, has proper voltage/ground, and the code persists, the internal circuitry of the radar sensor has likely failed. Unbolt the faulty radar unit from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install New Sensor

Mount the new radar sensor at the exact same angle as the old one (the angle is critical for accurate ground speed calculation). Plug in the connector and secure the harness with zip ties to prevent future snagging.

  5. Calibration

Depending on the tractor model, you may need to perform a slip control or radar calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor to ensure accurate speed readings.
