New Holland NH 1006 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module: Slip control potentiometer signal too low

The slip control potentiometer is a rotary knob or dial located on the operator's control console or armrest. It is used in conjunction with the tractor's radar to set the maximum allowable wheel slip percentage for the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system. When the controller detects that the voltage signal from this potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold, it logs code 1006 and may disable slip control functionality.

   Inspect the slip control knob on the armrest/console for physical damage, sticking, or looseness.

   Access the back of the slip control potentiometer and check the electrical connector for loose pins, pushed-out terminals, or corrosion.

   Test the wiring harness between the potentiometer and the EDC/Armrest controller for an open circuit or a short to ground (which causes the signal too low condition).

   Using a multimeter, perform a potentiometer sweep test to check the voltage or resistance sweep as you turn the knob. If the signal drops out entirely or reads out of specification, the potentiometer is internally faulty.

   Power down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the component

   Remove the trim panels on the right-hand control console or armrest to access the underside of the EDC control panel.

   Disconnect harness

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the slip control potentiometer.

   Remove potentiometer

   Remove the knob from the top of the console, then remove the retaining nut or mounting screws holding the potentiometer in place.

   Install new potentiometer

   Install the new slip control potentiometer, secure it with the retaining hardware, and reattach the knob.

   Reconnect harness

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new sensor.

   Reassemble and test

   Reinstall the console trim panels, reconnect the battery, and turn the key on. Clear the stored NH 1006 fault code.

   Calibrate system

   Perform a Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration (often associated with code 1024) to ensure the EDC system recognizes the new potentiometer's voltage range.
