New Holland NH 1009 – Hitch Controller / Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module: Both external switches operated at the same time

This fault code indicates an invalid command in the tractor's Electronic Draft Control (EDC) / 3-point hitch system. The system has detected that both the 'Raise' and 'Lower' buttons on the external fender-mounted hitch switches are being activated simultaneously. Because the hitch cannot raise and lower at the same time, the controller flags this as an error and disables the external hitch controls for safety.

   Visually inspect the external fender switches for physical damage, packed mud, or debris that could cause one or both buttons to stick in the depressed position.

   Perform a switch disconnection test: Unplug the wiring harness from the rear fender switches and turn the key ON. If the code clears or changes to an open-circuit code, the switch is internally shorted or mechanically stuck.

   Test switch continuity using a digital multimeter. The switch should only show continuity on a specific circuit when the 'Raise' or 'Lower' button is actively pressed.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the fender to the Hitch ECU for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause the raise and lower signal wires to short together.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the 3-point hitch to the ground (if it is not already down), turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Thoroughly clean the area around the fender-mounted hitch switches.

   This prevents dirt from entering the electrical connectors during removal.

   Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the faulty switch.

   Reach behind the fender (or remove the switch bezel, depending on the model) to access the connector.

   Repair or replace the wiring harness if diagnostic tests pointed to a wiring issue.

   Repair the shorted wires using proper soldering and marine-grade heat-shrink tubing, or replace the damaged harness section.

   Remove the faulty switch.

   Depress the retaining clips or remove the mounting screws holding the switch to the fender housing and push the switch out.

   Install the new OEM replacement switch.

   Snap the new switch into the fender housing.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Ensure the weather seal is intact and the connector clicks securely into place.

   Test the 3-point hitch operation.

   Turn the ignition on, clear the stored fault codes from the dashboard/monitor, and test using both the in-cab controls and the new external fender switches to verify the repair.
