New Holland NH 1010 – Armrest Controller, EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Module, or XCM (Multi-function Control Module): Height limit potentiometer signal too low

This fault code indicates that the signal voltage from the hitch height limit potentiometer has dropped below the acceptable threshold (typically indicating a short to ground or an open circuit). When this signal is lost, the controller cannot determine the operator's intended maximum lift height.

   Inspect the height limit control knob on the EDC panel for physical damage, binding, or liquid intrusion.

   Access the back of the EDC control panel and inspect the wiring harness leading to the potentiometer for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or disconnected plugs.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and verify that the controller is sending a 5V reference signal to the connector and that the ground circuit is intact.

   Check the signal wire for continuity between the potentiometer connector and the Armrest/EDC controller pin, ensuring there is no short to ground.

   Measure the resistance of the potentiometer while turning the knob. The resistance should sweep smoothly without any dead spots or dropouts. If it drops to zero or reads open, the potentiometer is internally shorted/defective.

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Panel

   Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the trim/cover from the right-hand console or armrest to expose the underside of the EDC control panel.

   Remove the Knob

   Pull the plastic adjustment knob straight up and off the potentiometer shaft.

   Extract the Potentiometer

   Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector from the faulty potentiometer. Unbolt the retaining nut holding the potentiometer to the console bracket and remove the sensor.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the new potentiometer through the console, align the indexing tab, and tighten the retaining nut.

   Reassembly

   Press the adjustment knob back onto the splined/slotted shaft. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Button Up

   Reinstall the console trim and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Turn the key on. You will likely need to perform the tractor's Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration procedure (often triggered via the tractor's instrument cluster or diagnostic menu) so the EDC module can learn the minimum and maximum voltage values of the new potentiometer.
